The Thracian mad dog has finally broken free from his leash it seems. He has killed the worm Batiatus and the leading citizens of Capua, though fortunately my 'dear' wife was able to escape the bloodbath unharmed. The God's know that her father would have my head on a spike if anything were to happen to her. Despite her transgressions in killing Lykinia, I have sent for her to join me. Capua is no place to be for a Roman citizen now, especially for my wife.
As word of the Thracian's rebellion spreads, every slave will be rushing to join him. It has already shaken the leading men in Rome, the Gladiator's have been ordered from the city, and I am in the unique position of being the only Legion Commander in the area close enough to respond if this grows to the point that the local authorities cannot deal with it. Pompey Magnus is off in Spain and Crassus hasn't managed to buy himself an Army just yet. The Senators will be falling over themselves for me to protect them. Despite their rampant imagination, Spartacus leading a rabble horde of slaves and defeating a Roman Legion is impossible. But I do intend to take full advantage of their paranoia.. The title of Consul Gaius Cladius Glaber has a certain ring to it. One that Ilithyia will be sure to appreciate..
I have to admit, the recent events have been fortuitous and not only for my political career. I have a chance to redeem my earlier failures against the 'Bringer of Rain' and any influence Batiatus held over me ended when he was slaughtered in his own House along with that bitch of a wife of his. Spartacus did my work for me in that regard. It's amusing to think that because of me that Thracian barbarian is here today. I had him and his whore of a wife in the palm of my hand, I thought the Arena would be a fitting place for him to die with the knowledge that his wife was being fucked by slavers half a world away. Disgraced in the shadow of Rome, a power that he cannot deny. Instead, the God's have seen fit to elevate him. Or perhaps they are offering me one last chance at redemption. By killing Spartacus, history will remember my name and the Thracian will finally know his place. He will learn that no one can challenge the might of Rome...or me for that matter.
